Academy: Yorkshire v Castleford

— 29 June 2015

A double header weekend, initially saw the Yorkshire Academy at home to Castleford. With each team in need of the points, today could be a good game.

The Academy had been put in to bat and were soon 18 for 3. Young under 17 spin bowler, Ed Morrison took the fourth wicket reducing the home side to 45.

Waite and Thompson put some much needed fire back into the home side with a partnership of 90 before Waite (67) was dismissed by LBW.

Carver came to assist Thompson in his charge for runs creating a quick partnership of 31 before Carver was then dismissed by Wainwright for his second in a row. Thompson (54) soon followed after being stumped from Wainwright. The Academy saw out their 55 overs making a total of 198 for 8. Is it a large enough score to defend?

The Academy took their first two wickets early on, reducing the away side to 24 for 2. Captain Romaniw (38) and Wainwright soon put some runs on the board with a partnership of 44. Another solid partnership of 30 saw Castleford 97 for 4.

Spin bowler Logan reduced the side to 119 for 6 claiming four of the last wickets to some spectacular catches by Mosun Hussain and Brook.

Two more wickets fell for 6 runs from spin bowler Carver making an exciting atmosphere. Castleford needed 76 from 14 overs and the Academy required 4 wickets. The game could go either way.
Cook and Morrison were now at the crease and the pair made a superb partnership of 34 before Morrison was dismissed by Warner. Last man in, Edwards was needed to carry on the high run rate to gain Castleford the points.

The home side needed the last wicket and Castleford needed 41 runs from 8 overs. After super bowling by Logan (4/53) and a joint effort in the field, Cook (41*) and Edwards (19*) took the points in the last over of the game.

An exciting finish to a game.
