A bright but breezy day saw Yorkshire Academy away to Sheffield United. The Academy gained vital points by achieving an 8 wicket victory over Sheffield United who are still searching for their first win of the season.
As a coin was tossed, the Academy took their positions on the field with Waite and Warner opening the bowling. A first ball wicket for Waite (10 for 2), set the tone of the day for the home side. South African overseas Scholtz came to the rescue, holding up one end. With some lovely strokes he made the highest score of the match at 60 including 12 fours.
The home side were quickly 45 for 4 thanks to seam bowler Barnes (21 for 2) when S Ahmed came to aid Scholtz creating a partnership of 48 taking the side to 91 for 5 when Scholtz fell to bowler Warner at the hands of Callis.
The home side then faced left arm spin bowler James Logan. Logan bowled incredibly well taking a triple wicket maiden reducing Sheffield to 111 for 8 off 28 overs. The Captain, Weekes put some more runs on the board with a score of 24. Last men Rees and Exley showed some steady batting against opener Warner (42 for 2) until Logan (30 for 4) claimed the last victim. The home side finished their innings on 138, giving the Academy an extra 23 overs.
Callis and Ainsley took their positions on the wicket ready to begin the chase. The pair made a great start with some lovely fours over cover and mid-wicket. Ainsley was the first to fall to second team seam bowler Exley making 29, ending the pair’s efforts with a partnership of 75.
Soon after Callis (39) also fell victim to bowler Exley (22 for 2) leaving the side just 47 runs short of victory. Mosun Hussain (39) and Imtiaz brought home the much needed 8 wicket win with some fantastic sixes over long on.
