On a sunny but bitterly cold morning Leicester won the toss and elected to bat, a decision fully justified by them being 185-0 at lunch. Yorkshire tried 7 different bowlers but several spilt chances didn’t help.
Pardoe was 97 no from 110 balls with 17 fours and skipper, Boyce, 83 no from 102 balls with 12 fours and 2 sixes.
173 were added in the afternoon session for the loss of 2 wickets – Thompson and Wainman being the successful bowlers. Opener Pardoe made 144 from 154 balls with 26 fours whilst skipper Boyce remained unbeaten on 151 from 217 balls with 22 fours and 2 sixes.
In the 32 overs remaining Leicestershire added 100 with the loss of 4 further wickets, batting out the day and finishing on 458-6.
Boyce made 161 from 229 balls with 24 fours and 2 sixes before becoming one of Craddock’s 2 victims, he finished the day with figures of 24-4-81-2 and there were 2 wickets for Moin Ashraf.
With a somewhat mixed weather forecast over the next 2 days it will be interesting as to what decision Leicestershire make in the morning.
