Academy defeat Scotland Development squad

— 4 July 2014

The Academy hoped to complete the double over Scotland in the third day of their visit in a 50 over match.

After losing Eliot Callis for 7 in the 2nd over of the match. Opener James Wainman and Barney Gibson put on 89 in the next 14 overs. Gibson was dropped earlier he scored an excellent 79. James Wainman was stumped off the bowling of off spinner Michael Waugh earlier having scored 50 in
60 balls hitting 6 fours in a fine innings. Barney Gibson ‘s moutstanding knock contained 9 fours and one six. He too was a Waugh victim.

Ryan Gibson’s innings was quite different to yesterday’s very forceful knock though it was most effective. His 60 runs were a valuable contribution to his team’s total of 289 for 8 in the 50 overs. HIs partnership with captain Jared Warner was very valuable. It ended with an unfortunate run out after the pair had a 79 partnership and Warner had scored 37 runs. In the final few overs Matthew Waite again chipped in with a quick 23 in 13 balls.

The Scotland innings got off to a poor start when George Muncey was bowled in the first over by Matthew Waite. Fellow opener Chris Young was Waites second victim with the score on 13. Ollie Hairs hit a brisk 24 but he too was Waites 3rd victim caught by Carver. Only Gaudie who made 25 and MacLeod a Barnes victim who was caught by wicket keeper Gibson reached double figures and when the final wicket was taken Scotland were dismissed for a very disappointing 181. Thus Yorkshire had their second win in two days winning by a margin of 108 runs.
