YCF heading for Africa

— 19 June 2014

The Yorkshire Cricket Foundation is off on an African Adventure and we need YOU!

Yorkshire Cricket Foundation (Registered Charity No; 1130878) have teamed up with African Adventures to offer individuals the opportunity of a lifetime to volunteer in Kenya, next March. We are looking for volunteers to join us on this amazing trip.

From 21st March 2015, the YCF will spend 7 days volunteering in Nakuru, Kenya helping with a variety of projects including building work, sports coaching and teaching.

The trip aims to raise funds for the Yorkshire Cricket Foundation, whilst supporting African Adventures’ partner projects in Kenya and providing volunteers with a life-changing experience.

The money raised for the Yorkshire Cricket Foundation will go towards the charities flagship scheme ‘Cricket in the Classroom.’ The initiative works with 4,000 children a year, providing a free day at the stadium involving coaching, a learning session in the classroom and a tour of the ground. The scheme targets schools where children wouldn’t normally be able to access this opportunity.

African Adventures, works with community projects in developing areas of Africa. Volunteers can choose how they help, with project roles ranging from teaching in schools and working with underprivileged children, to cricket and multi-sports training.

The trip will support African Adventures’ Community Development Pledge, which provides resources and micro-finance to all projects it supports. Volunteers of all ages welcome but under 18’s must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. There is no upper age limit.

To round off the week all the volunteers will take part in the Rift Valley Adventure Day, which will be included at the end of this unique experience. This trip will include visiting Lake Nukuru safari park to see flamingos, lions, rhinos & giraffes to name a few. This is followed by a trip to the equator and a hike down Thomson Falls, one of the deepest waterfalls in Africa.

Sam Gascoyne from the Yorkshire Cricket Foundation said:

“This is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity to visit an amazing part of Africa and to make a real difference to communities in Kenya and also to raise much needed funds for projects running here in Yorkshire.

“We will help all the volunteers with their fundraising efforts for the trip and will be there every step of the way to make sure each person gets the most out of the experience.”
