Yorkshire Informer: Yorkshire v Nottinghamshire

— 7 June 2014

In this edition of ‘Yorkshire Informer’ we look ahead to the LV= County Championship match when Yorkshire taken on Nottinghamshire at Headingley. We hear from Captain Andrew Gale.

We also bring you all the team news and a full statspack.

  • Andrew Gale:

After Friday’s thrilling victory in the NatWest T20 Blast against Lancashire at Emirates Old Trafford, how much will that win benefit the Championship side?

“Sport is about momentum and building on performances. Last night’s win against Lancashire will benefit us. There was a great buzz coming back and we are excited to continue with our recent efforts, whether that is in limited overs cricket or in the Championship.

“We are all enjoying each other’s company and being part of a winning team. When things are fitting into place all you want to do is play and build on that momentum. As far as we are concerned, Sunday’s game against Notts can’t come quick enough.”

How will Notts come into the game?

“They will have a similar attitude to us. They are a good side with quality players. They will come to Headingley with confidence and will want to try and break our dominance at home.

“They are up there on the table and have played some decent cricket in all formats. These matches are always good to play in and there is a respect amongst both sets of players.

“Phil Jaques, who was a great servant at Yorkshire, returns to face us for the first time since he joined them at the start of the season. He has done really well and has scored some vital runs.

“He is well respected amongst our group and we look forward to playing against him. We’ll want to get into him early because if he sets himself he can go on and score big runs.”

How much will you miss Liam Plunkett?

“We’ll miss him massively. Liam has been the form bowler in the Championship and deserves his call up to the England Test squad. He will be formidable against Sri Lanka. His pace, this season, has been frighteningly quick and caused problems for batsmen. He would have been a good asset for us in this game. However, that is not meant to be. We will adapt without him and it means an opportunity for another player to come in and do a job.”

    Team News:

Yorkshire have named a 12-man squad for the match.

Jonathan Bairstow, Tim Bresnan, Jack Brooks, Andrew Gale (captain), Aaron Finch , Jack Leaning, Alex Lees, Adam Lyth, Steve Patterson, Richard Pyrah, Adil Rashid, Josh Shaw.

Ryan Sidebottom is still on the sidelines receiving on-going treatment for a hamstring problem. This will be the second successive Championship match he will miss.

Tim Bresnan requires 172 runs for a First-Class total of 4,000.
