In this edition of ‘Yorkshire Informer’ we look ahead to the LV= County Championship match when Yorkshire host top of the table Warwickshire. We hear from First Team Coach Jason Gillespie.
We also bring you all the team news and a full statspack.
With four games gone in the Championship season, how would you assess the season so far?
“We are reasonably pleased. We have done some very good things, but I’ve been very clear that there are areas where we need to improve.
“In our last couple of games with the ball, we have had periods of some excellent play but there have been times where we haven’t got it right.
“That is an area of concern and certainly something we are focussing on to improve.
“We have dominated games for the main, but haven’t been able to finish teams off. We are well aware of that. I have been impressed with the lads on preparation and the effort shown in every game. We are giving ourselves opportunities to drive games forward, but we just need to find that killer instinct. I know that will come.”
This year has been very competitive that must be good for the game?
“It has been hugely competitive and that can only be a good thing for the English game. The game in this country will really benefit from the competitiveness of the elite competition and that is what we are all striving for.
“The more we have England players’ available and playing hard cricket in the County Championship, the better for them as players and the competition as a whole.”
Warwickshire, what can you expect?
“They are a gun side. I feel every week I’m saying the same thing about our opposition but it is true. Every team we face are strong and very competitive and that will be the case over the next week.
“There are nine sides that are working hard and pushing to play positive cricket. If you don’t prepare properly and fail to be focused you will come a cropper in this division.
“It’s going to be another tough game for us. Warwickshire come off the back of a tremendous innings victory over Middlesex on their own patch and are currently riding high at the top of the league.
“They’ll also have have their international players returning, which will add strength to their squad.
“Our objective, like everything game, is to win the match. We have to be relentless in everything we do and approach the game positively.”
