Jonathan Tattersall, above, joined Alex Lees in an opening partnership of 98 – and then took 4-20 as Yorkshire Academy overwhelmed Appleby Frodingham by 108 runs in the Solly Sports ECB Yorkshire County Premier League yesterday.
It was a gloriously sunny day as Appleby Frodingham won the toss and elected to field. Yorkshire started well, Lees and Tattersall almost completing a century partnership before Tattersall fell for 33.
Lees went on to a top score of 51, and Rhodes and Ryan Gibson then enjoyed a partnership of 64. Rhodes, 40, departed at 204-5 with Gibson, 34, leaving the crease soon afterwards. Yorkshire advanced to 249-8 despite some good bowling from South African Justin Dill, whose 12 overs cost 45 runs for three wickets.
Appleby Frodingham were soon 49-3, thanks to excellent catches in the slips by Hussain and Lees. Yorkshire kept the run rate low, and soon managed to bowl their opponents out for 141, with special performances from Karl Carver – who took three wickets for 27 runs off 12 overs – and Tattersall, who conceded only 20 runs while taking four wickets.
Appleby Frodingham’s top scorer, Pickersgill, made 29. C Greonink, a 15-year -making his first-team debut, kept his end alive with a not out 11.
The Academy pocket the full eight points for a complete win.
