Yorkshire Vikings have named a 22-man squad for their pre-season tour of Barbados, with the team flying out to the Caribbean on Monday.
The Vikings return to Barbados aiming to retain their T20 title they won last year. During their two-week camp, Yorkshire will play a minimum of two matches in the T20 Barbados Cup. In addition, there are two two-day matches planned against Northamptonshire and Nottinghamshire respectively and a couple of internal warm-up games.
“We are looking forward to getting out to Barbados,” said Captain Andrew Gale, who will lead the team in their return to the top flight of the LV= County Championship.
“The Barbados camp will form an integral part of our plans for the new season and give us all massive opportunities to get out in the middle and develop our skills. It would be great if we could follow last year’s success on the island and win the T20 tournament for a second successive year.
“It will also be good for the new recruits (Jack Brooks and Liam Plunkett) to settle into our style and we will also welcome back Phil Jaques after an off-season spent in his native Australia.”
Yorkshire start their Barbados campaign with an internal two-day match amongst the squad on Wednesday March 13 before starting their Barbados T20 campaign against Hampshire Royals at the Kensington Oval, Bridgetown on Saturday March 16 with finals day the following day.
The two-day match against Northamptonshire takes place at Windward CC on Wednesday March 20 and the final match of the tour against Nottinghamshire commences on Friday March 22. The squad returns to the UK on Tuesday March 26.
Yorkshire CCC would like to thank the Yorkshire County Cricket Club Players’ Association for helping to fund the trip for the three Academy players, Ben Coad, William Rhodes and Lewis Stabler.
“We are delighted to be in a position to help the young lads continue their cricket development,” added players’ association president Jim Love. “This will be a massive part of their cricketing education, which will enable them to develop their game and give them added confidence going into the new season.”
A big thank you for the kind donation from the YCCSA to help fund the trip to Barbados. Your support, as always, is very much appreciated.
