Oliver Robinson signed junior professional terms with Yorkshire ahead of the 2014 having done enough to impress the club’s hierarchy in first and second-team cricket during the summer of 2013.
A tall all-rounder who has the ability to be a fast-medium paced bowler who can bat at number six according to former Yorkshire batsman Chris Taylor, his captain in club cricket at Lightcliffe in the Bradford League.
Having grown up in Margate, he progressed through the Kent system before making a good impression with Leicestershire’s second XI in the early stages of the 2013 season.
He was offered a trial with Yorkshire, and was even handed opportunities in the first team during the latter stages of their Yorkshire Bank 40 campaign, playing three matches.
2007 – Scored a half-century on his second appearance for Kent’s under 13s side in a 40-over match against Sussex as an opening batsman in early June.
2009 – Hit 76 and took 2-26 as the captain of Kent’s under 15s team in a 50-over match against Sussex in late May. Took 5-27 for the same side against the same opponents in a one-day single innings match later in the summer.
2010 – Scored a century (119) for club side Sandwich Town in Kent league cricket in early June. Hit an unbeaten 100 for Kent’s under 17s to underpin a successful chase of 255 in a 50-over cup final against Nottinghamshire in early September.
2011 – Hit centuries in successive appearances for Kent’s under 17s against Essex and Sussex in July and August. Hit 41 on his Kent second XI debut, a three-day Championship match, against Surrey in August.
2013 – Played second XI cricket for Kent and Leicestershire in the early stages of the summer before debuting for Yorkshire’s second XI in June. A string of encouraging performances earned him three appearances in Yorkshire Bank 40 cricket against Leicestershire, Unicorns and Glamorgan. In a second XI Championship match against Warwickshire in early August, he hit 90 not out and 30 not out and took 3-14 and 2-29.
