2nd XI: MCC Young Cricketers v Yorkshire (Day Three)— 15 August 2014
Yorkshire`s second innings finished on the stroke of lunch as Yorkshire`s last man, Moin Ashraf, was unable to bat due to injury. So a final target of 276 from a minimum of 67 was set and we all adjourned to the lunch-room.
The main rock upon which Yorkshire`s second innings was built was a maiden half-century in the 2nd XI for Jordan Thompson. He was eventually dismissed for 80 from 93 deliveries (nine boundaries and two maximums) Smaller contributions this morning were seen from Barney Gibson and Matthew Waite.
Jordan`s batting has been shaping up more and more as the season nears its end and he deserved his moment of glory in leafiest Hertfordshire.
MCC began their second innings after lunch and had progressed to 24/0 in the 12th over when the Umpires took the players off as the rain, which had been falling for the previous 10 minutes, had finally become hard enough. Covers went on and thunder and lightning followed.
An early tea was taken and, with thunder still rumbling in the distance, the umpires and Coaches decided to abandon the match as a draw immediately after the tea interval.
Yorkshire take 13 points and the MCC 10.
