2nd XI v Gloucestershire (Day 3)

— 11 July 2014

After the Lord Mayor`s show……… Just as Gloucestershire`s bowlers had struggled on day two as Yorkshire`s batters made hay, so day three saw the roles reversed and the White Rose bowlers had to chase the shots by Roderick and Housego as both made centuries in an opening stand of 256 in three minutes under five hours.

Scorecard

Karl Carver made the breakthrough, after 79.1 overs just before 4.30 pm. He had Housego well caught by Josh Shaw and the same combination dealt with Graham McCarter shortly afterwards. Carver was briefly on a hat-trick at the dismissal of McCarter, as his previous delivery had accounted for Jack Taylor. Dan Hodgson made an appeal for a stumping on the hat-trick ball but it came to nought.

As soon as 5.00 pm arrived, hands were shaken, bails removed and stumps uprooted. The wicket had not helped any style of bowling and the bowlers, for once, made no clamour to see their figures, with one obvious exception.

So next week, we have Worcestershire visiting at Stamford Bridge on Monday and York for the next three days. It will probably mean re-acquaintance with Kevin Sharp, who is looking after Worcestershire 2nds after the sad and untimely passing of the immensely popular Damian D`Oliveira.
