Yorkshire 50s remain unbeaten with victory over closet rivals— 26 June 2014
Both unbeaten to date, Yorkshire and Lancashire met for their rearranged Group 1 match at Studley Royal CC, Ripon and contested a closely fought game with the home side emerging victorious by 4 wickets.
Lancashire chose to bat on a good wicket at this very large ground and made steady progress to 61 before opener Lord (34) fell to a catch by Neil Grant (Acomb) off the bowling of Kevin Watson (Brook Walton). Captain Dearden was then bowled by his Yorkshire counterpart Steve Wales (North Leeds) for a duck at the same score followed by Bennett succumbing to the spin of Stephen Booth (Collingham) for 15. A partnership of 66 by opener Sutcliffe, who carried his bat for 61 not out, and wicketkeeper Partington (33) enabled the visitors to close on 177 for 6 off their 45 overs, Colin Chadwick (Pately Bridge) taking 3 for 43, and setting Yorkshire a challenging chase.
The home side started in blistering fashion, despite the early dismissal of opener Richard Sykes (Acomb) for no score, Kevin Bradley (Dunnington) (41) departing in the 11th over with the score on 64, The visitors spinners, Dearden, Deakin and Doyle slowed the scoring significantly with Grant (Acomb) (39) Colin Frank (Pickering) (26) and Chadwick (16) playing sensibly whilst keeping the scoreboard moving. Steve Wales (20no) and Booth (7no) took the total to a winning 181 with a stand of 21 including an all run 5 and 4 emphasising the all-round fitness and teamwork of the Yorkshire side this season.
Yorkshire have now played 5 won 5 which includes a walkover against Northumberland, and have aspirations of winning Group 1 to ensure a home fixture in the knock-out stage.
