Yorkshire CALLS ON FANS TO VOTE FOR THEIR NATWEST T20 BLAST Anthem

— 28 April 2014

Yorkshire County Cricket Club is calling on its fans to vote for their favourite songs as part of the England & Wales Cricket Board’s (ECB) search to create cricket’s soundtrack to the summer.

Vikings fans’ favourite tune, Start Me Up, by The Rolling Stones, has been included in an 18-song shortlist and Yorkshire is calling on fans to vote for their anthem to ensure it is included in the final 10-song NatWest T20 Blast Summer Anthems Playlist and played at games throughout the season.

With a majority of fixtures in the new NatWest T20 Blast season taking place on Friday nights throughout the summer, the ECB is searching for a playlist that best represents the summer for fans and reflects the atmosphere that will be experienced during the 133 fixtures in an action-packed season.

“Our search for the NatWest T20 Blast Summer Anthems playlist was inspired by our desire to find a set of songs that encapsulates the summer for cricket fans." - David Collier

The final NatWest T20 Blast Summer Anthems Playlist will be announced ahead of the start of the NatWest T20 Blast season on Thursday 8th May.

The new NatWest T20 Blast competition kicks off on Friday 16th May, taking place over 11 weeks with a majority of fixtures being played on Friday nights. The re-launched format of T20 will offer fast-paced cricket with fours smashed, sixes launched and wickets cart wheeling – all packed into three hours.

David Collier, ECB Chief Executive, said: “Our search for the NatWest T20 Blast Summer Anthems playlist was inspired by our desire to find a set of songs that encapsulates the summer for cricket fans. With 70% of fixtures in the new season taking place on a Friday night, we wanted to find a playlist that would represent this and T20’s brand of exciting cricket.

“NatWest T20 Blast will have something for everyone and the new season is set to offer cricket fans, groups of friends and families alike a unique experience, ensuring everyone can watch an exciting style of cricket with an electric atmosphere.”
