(CLOSE): Glamorgan 2XI v Yorkshire 2nd XI - Cardiif

— 9 April 2014

Day 1:

Glamorgan won the toss on a bright and breezy morning and, as the previous day, invited Yorkshire to bat first

The visitors made a poor start as Eliot Callis, in trying to withdraw his bat, inadvertently chopped the ball onto the bails. He was out for 1and Yorkshire were 2/1. Dan Hodgson and Jonathan Tattersall then steadied the ship and took the score to 36 before Tattersall was taken low at first slip for 22.

Conditions were never easy. The ball was not coming onto the bat and the outfield was slow, resulting in a huge amount of threes, which would be boundaries later in the summer.

Dan Hodgson ground out 47 (122 balls and 158 minutes) and Will Rhodes 49 in a minute under two hours. But thanks to equally solid contributions from Richard Pyrah (30*) and Andrew Hodd (27) 200 was passed and a second batting point secured.

Glamorgan were left with 23 overs to bat and found the going no less easy, moving to 48/1 in those 23 overs. Pyrah took the only wicket to fall, with the aid of a splendid diving catch down the leg-side by Andrew Hodd, but several other deliveries passed the bat but failed to find an edge.
