What a week it has been for Gary Ballance. Selected in England Ashes squad for the tour of Australia on Monday and today he became the 13th Yorkshire player to score two centuries in the same match.
After the match was drawn against Surrey, with Ballance scoring 148 in the first innings and a 108 not out in the second innings, the 23-year-old can look back on a week and a season to remember.
“It has been an amazing week,” said Ballance, who also became the leading run scorer in the top flight this season with 1251 runs.
“I can’t believe all the attention. To top off the week with two tons against Surrey is brilliant. I enjoyed it out in the middle. It was a good pitch to bat on and to get a draw is a good way to end the season.
“We have had a great season and to finish second is testament to the boys. Everyone has chipped in and done their bit. You feel that we are going in the right direction and the future looks bright.
“I’m now looking forward to a rest before joining up with England next month. It should be a great few months and I’m very excited.“
