In this edition of ‘Yorkshire Informer’ we look ahead to the final LV= County Championship home of the season when Yorkshire face Middlesex at Headingley, commencing on Tuesday September 17.
We speak to first team coach Jason Gillespie as Yorkshire aim for victory to keep pressure on Durham at the top of the table.
We also bring you all the team news and a full statspack.
What chance have Yorkshire got in the title race now that Durham are 27.5 points clear with two games remaining?
“It’s going to be a big challenge. We will play positively and go all out to win the match against Middlesex.
“Durham have been the best team in the competition over the past month and deserve to be top. They have won nine out of 14 matches and have really played to their full potential in recent weeks.
“The title is for Durham’s to lose and all we can do is control what we do this week. If we show the same level of consistency, in our last two matches we are capable of earning victories.”
How do you feel after last week’s draw at Sussex?
“We tried to force a result and did everything in our power to win. Unfortunately, the conditions made it tough for us with the light and the rain. I still maintain if we had favourable conditions on the last day, we would have won the game.”
“It was hugely disappointing and it was a long journey home on the bus.”
How would you asses the season?
“It has been good. We have made significant progress after gaining promotion last season and to be in the shake-up at this stage of the season is credit to the players.
“We are not giving up. We will fight to the end and see what comes up. There is a great deal to look forward to over the next few years and I am excited about the future at Headingley.”
Yorkshire have named the same squad that drew with Sussex at Hove last week.
