Rain and Duckworth/Lewis brought a sad exit for Yorkshire Academy from the ECB Solly Sports Yorkshire County Premier League Cup when they went down by three runs to York in the Semi-Final at Weetwood today.
York won the toss and elected to bat after an hour had been lost to rain, and openers Lambert, 16, and Snell, 21, put on a solid stand of 28 before Lambert fell to Josh Shaw (1- 36). Two more wickets in quick succession for James Wainman (1- 21) and Jared Warner (2-27) reduced York to 45-3, all three pouched by Barney Gibson behind the stumps.
Academy were on top, but York hit back with an impressive fourth-wicket partnership of 111 between Oliver Hairs, 69, and Alex Collins, 53, lifting the total to 156. Matthew Fisher (2-53) put Yorkshire back in the driving seat, but a final flurry by Pringle, 18 not out, and Woods, 19 not out, saw York to 225-7 in the reduced allocation of 45 overs.
York’s strong bowling attack reducing the hosts to 50- 3, Liam McKendry taking 2-28, but a middle-order recovery doubled the total with Ryan Gibson, above, 41 not out when the heavens opened again, and Shaw still there on 12.
The heavy rain finally relented, and spectators hung as efforts were made to dry the surrounds. An inspection of the conditions was followed by another 20 minutes later, but it was then that the umpires decided that no more play was possible.
The game was decided in York’s favour by three runs under the Duckworth/Lewis method, York going on to meet Driffield in the final on Sunday, August 18, at Driffield.
