Yorkshire 223 for 11 (90 overs) match drawn
Notts 303 for 13 (90 overs)
After batting the full 90 overs on day one, with Andrew Gale being Yorkshire’s standout batsman with a patient knock of 75, the second day was all about working on bowling and fielding at Windward CC.
Against a strong Nottinghamshire side, Yorkshire bowled with discipline and showed that they have variety and venom across all their bowling stocks.
The spell by Liam Plunkett, in the second session of the day between lunch and tea, was outstanding. He bowled with serious pace and at one stage had taken three Nottinghamshire wickets for just four runs in three overs that would have tested the best batsmen in the world. On this showing, it looks like Plunkett could well be getting back to his best, which will be a tremendous asset for the White Rose going into the new season.
Seamer Steve Patterson bowled with control and made it difficult for the Notts players to score runs on a slow wicket.
Ryan Sidebottom and Jack Brooks also made it difficult and Sidebottom showed his class by taking Alex Hales’ wicket in the first ball of Notts innings. In his 11 overs he probed away and made it difficult for the Nottinghamshire top order to score consistently.
Richard Pyrah bowled the most overs with a 17 over spell showing excellent endurance and was rewarded with two wickets for 47 runs.
As the Barbados tour comes to an end, Yorkshire are in a good place and with the influx of new players strengthening the bowling department, the season ahead looks promising.
The players return to the UK on Tuesday and will aim to practice outdoors for the first time this year at Headingley on Friday, weather permitting, as they continue preparations ahead of the first game of the season against Leeds Bradford MCCU on April 5-7.
