Richard Pyrah, the man who hit the winning runs with a straight six in Yorkshire Vikings victory over Hampshire Royals in Barbados, believes the team can continue to improve in all forms of the game
The Vikings cruised to a seven-wicket victory over Hampshire with three overs to spare and can now look forward to finals day at the Kensington oval on Sunday.
“It was a great performance from the boys and we played at a good tempo,” said Pyrah, who scored 22 with the bat from 12 balls coming in at number three in the opening match of the Barbados T20 competition.
“We excelled in all departments and played with a good vibe. The beauty of the team dynamic is that we know each others game inside out. We have built a great spirit over the past few years, which is now working for us on the pitch. It was a great win for us and we will continue to get better
“The victory was impressive. Our aim was to dominate from the outset with some aggressive cricket and a bit of hustle in the field. We did that really well and it is now about building on our efforts.
“We won the trophy out here last year, which gave us momentum going into the season. Similar efforts will help us again this summer.”
Pyrah contributed beautifully with the bat hitting some superb cricket shots in his innings and he was pleased to get into the T20 groove with relative ease.
“Even though I was out in the middle for a short period, I got into the pace of the game pretty quick,” added Pyrah. “I was seeing the ball well. To win the game with a straight six was very satisfying.
“I just want to improve as a cricketer and become an effective all rounder. I know I can be successful in all forms of the game and I’m looking forward to a big year with the Club.”
