A stand of 57 for the second wicket between Jonathan Tattersall, above, and Jack Leaning secured Yorkshire Academy’s third victory on the trot in the Solly Sports Yorkshire ECB Yorkshire County Premier League today.
A damp outfield and wicket at Weetwood delayed the start by two-and-a-half hours, and after another lost toss Academy took the field with Scarborough run machines Simpson and Harland to dismiss. At 18-2 with five overs gone and skipper Andy Simpson back in the tent things began to look brighter.
Josh Shaw bowled a miserly five overs, and claimed the first two wickets. Lewis Stabler, making His league return after a long injury, bowled Darren Harland, and only Ashley Lythe (43) played the bowlers with confidence. Carl Karver and Ryan Gibson each bowled four overs for 10 runs to pick up the wickets of Lythe and Sharman.
The Academy target was 129, but Scarborough were not all out , so full points could not be gained. Skipper Azeem Rafiq skied a ball to mid-on with the total on 11, but his side were indebted to a fine stand of 57 in 11 overs from opener Tattersall (32) and Jack Leaning( 51 not out). It was this which enabled the Academy to push on to victory.
George Ross was lbw to Lyth for 15, but a 39-run partnership by Leaning and Mosun Hussain (16 not out) saw the Academy coasted to a seven- wicket incomplete victory. Six valuable points, and three wins in three matches played to date.
